The Karnataka State Open University (KSOU) is an Open distance learning University in the state of Karnataka. The University is an older and well reputed University. The University was established in the month of June 1996 under the University Act. The University is located in the city of Mysore, Karnataka, India. Mysore is the third largest city in the state of Karnataka in India. The first vice-chancellor of the University was Anjana Murthy.

The objective of the University is to provide higher education to the people who can’t attend full time or part time courses. The motive of this University was to provide higher education with the Open distance learning system. There are many degree and diploma courses are in these departments named are Arts, Science, Life Science, Languages and some other research field also. The University also provides some scholarship programs to the schedule caste students.

The Karnataka State Open University is the 8th Open University in India. The University conducted the exam in a different manner. Some exams are conduct within semesters and some exams are one time in one year. All the exams are done in the month of May and June.
